“Russian impressionism: borders and horizons”

Registration for the online broadcast is open on April 15—16, 2025. The Museum of Russian Impressionism and the School of Arts and Cultural Heritage of the European University in St. Petersburg are holding an international scientific conference “Russian impressionism: borders and horizons”.

Impressionism was the first of many modernist “isms” to become an international artistic phenomenon: modifications can be found in each of the national schools of painting. For many artists of the Russian Empire, impressionism was not just a fashionable artistic trend, but a new method of artistic vision. In the era of socialist realism, impressionism remained a “window to the world” that even Soviet classics wanted to look into. Impressionism served as one of the most effective “fermentation enzymes” for the formation of other artistic systems.

The conference will discuss a wide range of issues related to impressionism in the Russian Empire and its future in the USSR.

The conference program with the schedule and the list of participants can be viewed at museum website.

Registration for the online broadcast is open until April 14 by following the link. Participation is free of charge. On the eve of the conference, a reminder and links to two days of the broadcast will be sent to the email address specified during registration. The broadcasts and their recordings will be available at museum community on VKontakte.
